The party invitations are starting to flutter in for after work drinks, the office Christmas party and festive gatherings with friends. Every Christmas you’ll find metallics, sequins, glitter, sparkle and fringing all over the shops. Keep your outfit interesting by pairing a full length velvet dress with a leather jacket, or a fringed skirt with biker or buckled boots. I love to toughen-up pretty dresses with hard edges likes boots and leather but if you’re more of a lady than me then I have plenty of very pretty and glam suggestions from the High Street and Higher End.
The Jeans and Sparkly Top Update
The pretty standard ‘go-to’ outfit for many women is jeans and a sparkly top for informal events, this is rather safe but massively popular because it’s just so easy to put together and almost impossible to get wrong. Sometimes a worn denim won’t cut it and you need something smarter and just a bit more ‘dance floor’. A lot of us have a pair of coated (usually black) jeans in our wardrobe to smarten up the jeans and top combo, but this party season swap those for some metallic coated jeans or full on metallic silver like the Isabel Marant jeans at Matches Fashion. Wear with mules and an off-shoulder top for a cool, modern party look.
This is THE texture trend this season and Finery London’s off-shoulder velvet jumpsuit is a brilliant choice. ASOS and The Reformation have some excellent full length velvet dresses that would work nicely for more formal events in your calendar. There’s such a demand for the velvet jumpsuit there’s a waiting list but it’s due back in for December just in time maybe for Christmas Day – only six weeks to go!!
And finally to the classic party piece, the party dress. It’s usually a good idea to pay attention to your body shape when choosing a killer party dress, they all look great on models in magazines. If you are pear shaped then go for a dress that is fitted on top and flared on the bottom, if you are hourglass go for waist definition and hug your curves, if you are apple shaped then a tunic, a fully patterned dress or a dress that is patterned on top and plain on the bottom and go short, apples usually have great legs. It’s all about drawing the eye to your best bits.
Here are my favourites:
Other Stories Disco Dress. The fact it is called The Disco Dress is quite enough!
Ruby red fully sequinned dress from Other Stories. You could wear this with wool tights, boots and a roll reck underneath if you’re more relaxed and edgy or just with the faux fur heels below for a super glam, sexy outfit.
Ooh yeah, a fully sequinned dress by Preen by Thornton Bregazzi from Matches Fashion. This is the other end of the price spectrum at a hefty £1,538 but is a show-stopper and would be ace worn with black suede over the knee boots for a different look:
Or how about this ruched velvet beauty in gorgeous pink! Again at the top end of the price range at £915 and again by Preen at Matches Fashion. This would be brilliant at a formal event getting the right attention.
These stunning full-on dresses need to be anchored a bit to see you through the arrival at the party until you are a couple of glasses of bubbles down and ready to demand attention! Cover-up in either a silky black tux or a cropped black leather biker jacket, both of these are from &Other Stories.
Party edit complete! Maybe next time I’ll suggest a few lower key dresses but for now, it’s full on glamour and sequin-tastic!
