Many times on this blog I have mentioned the benefits of the jumpsuit and how it is now a wardrobe staple. Hell, even Royal Ascot have now allowed it in the Royal Enclosure as part of the dress code for their “fashion forward” clientele which proves jumpsuits have hit the mainstream. No longer a high risk – high reward item, no longer exotic and clearly not going anywhere for the forseeable!
Summer jumpsuits are a great alternative to a dress, they cover up your legs if you hate getting those out and they are SO EASY to throw on requiring next to no thought about pulling your outfit together. Not so easy when going to the loo but this is just part of ‘life in a jumpsuit’ and worth sitting almost naked on a public loo for. They are also more appropriate than a maxi dress for the office but have the same cool vibe.
When choosing your perfect jumpsuit the same rules apply as they do for the rest of your wardrobe – don’t follow trends, go with what suits you. Yeah, I’ll try colour and I’ll try print from time to time but deep down I love plain clothes in natural fabrics and I like a tapered leg rather than a wide leg on my trousers, I’m sticking with what suits me.
Another version of the summer jumpsuit is the playsuit – a handy top and shorts in one! The trick is not to get one that makes you look like a five year old child – weird – romper suit anyone? Tailoring is probably a good bet to keep your playsuit looking grown-up.
Here’s my pick from the high street of the best playsuits and jumpsuits in the shops now for summer 2017 – Whistles are leading the way this season with a huge selection of jumpsuits and playsuits.
Kicking-off with two playsuit’s from my favourite local haunt Anthology Boutique on Old York Road in Wandsworth – available over the phone too though!
This strappy playsuit is by Des Petit Hauts – £138.
Or this (with sleeves!) by Sun Coo.
Reiss are very good at tailored, smarter jumpsuits and playsuits and like most shops at the moment they are on sale: –
This midnight blue tailored jumpsuit is evening appropriate.
Reiss palm print playsuit, perfect for summer evenings at the pub!
Topshop polka dot, off shoulder jumpsuit.
All Saints swirly print jumpsuit. Would be good with converse or a plain black heel for evening.
Hush racing red open back jumpsuit. Smart but relaxed.
Whistles have a huge selection of jumpsuits and playsuits this season with a summery plant print theme on most of them. I am pretty keen for the hydrangea off shoulder version, utterly stunning in the sunshine!
A selection of these for holiday would be perfect. Everything there from beach linen playsuits to smart evening silk jumpsuits.
