Smart casual is the usual dress code for most of us now in the office and instead of jeans, which are too hot to wear, summer trousers are a wardrobe essential. Smart casual outfits can be quite tricky to pull together because unless you are wearing a dress every day you need to match separates which takes thought and time. Having some fresh ideas and regularly injecting some change into your wardrobe keeps things interesting, keeps you inspired and helps transport you through the working week! That is why I am loving these patterned trousers right now!
Cropped, patterned trousers are a huge trend but the important thing is they are a wearable trend. They are a great way to liven up your smart casual work look this summer with colour and pattern. All you need to pair them with is a white shirt or plain smart silk top, neutral shoes and finish with a blazer, if you’re doing pattern on the bottom go plain on top and vice versa. It’s an excellent work outfit that adds colour and pattern and cool summer style.
Also something to bear in mind when thinking of treating yourselves to a pair of these is that for a lot of people, buying and wearing fitted/tailored trousers is a huge pain. Especially if you are pear shaped, getting the right fit can be very difficult, or you have big hips and thighs. Loose, wide legged trousers are more forgiving and suit a lot of body shapes. If you have large ankles and calves then it is better to wear these with heels, if you are over a size 16 then ASOS curve have some excellent options including the not patterned but lace embellished trousers in this post that can be dressed up or dressed down.
There is a patterned trouser or culotte out there for every budget and taste at the moment. I normally advise my clients to spend more on really good basics and less on the trend pieces and I would count these as a trend piece this summer. The Emilio Pucci trousers below were just too cool to leave out though!
A new summer work look while this weather holds! The high end shops are already getting in their autumn wear so enjoy it while you can!
