My five wardrobe essentials
These are the five wardrobe essentials I cannot be without and are the building blocks of my wardrobe. I like to think of them as the stars of the show and without them my wardrobe would be flat and drab.
I’m a stylist and a fashion love so of course I am constantly tempted by new things in the shops. But oh how I try not to buy. I turned away from fast fashion many years ago now and my wardrobe is all the better for it. I get far more pleasure and wear out of shopping with intent, identifying the pieces I will really wear a lot and spending a bit more on those items.
If you spend more on a piece, you are more likely to value it and it will work harder for you in the wardrobe.
I recognise I am a ‘magpie shopper’ also known as ‘shiny object syndrome; where my head gets turned by what’s new. The way I have (almost) overcome that and started to shop for myself in a more strategic way is by getting really clear on how I want to dress. These days I want to look relaxed, classic and modern, or sometimes, relaxed, feminine with edge. It’s really helpful to come up with 3 words that describe how you want to dress so you can stay on track when shopping and not make expensive shopping mistakes.
If you’d like some help finding your 3 words or getting clarity on your personal style, watch my 45-minute masterclass The Winning Wardrobe Formula which will make an impact on your style straight away.
My Five Wardrobe staples
So without further ado, these are the five pieces I have in my wardrobe that are my absolute go-to wardrobe heroes. I couldn’t be without these items.
A boucle jacket -
These Chanel-esq jackets are everywhere. They really suit my style because they are relaxed but polished. I love wearing my black Maje jacket with really baggy jeans to do that high-low thing.
2. Slouchy tailored black trousers.
A wardrobe essential this year if you like looking up to date. Great for the office or dress down slightly with trainers as I have in the photo above.
4. A simple tee. or a slogan tee if you prefer.
Everyone is wearing white tees in 2023 - this really is a building block of a wardrobe. Worn with jeans, a great blazer or jacket, jeans and loads of jewellery. I like Chambers & Beau jewellery - the founder Amy Elson came on my podcast this week - the episode will be released very soon but lots of others to listen to here.
Five wardrobe staples I could not be without! I do have more so will expand on that next time on the blog.
